SCHC - "Jewish Life in Nigeria" with the Uzans

South Caulfield Hebrew Congregation
"Jewish Life in Nigeria" with the Uzans
Online Event
Rabbi Israel and Haya Uzan, arrived in 2010 in Nigeria for the first time as a couple. Rabbi Israel used to come for Jewish holidays in different countries around Africa under Rabbi Bentolila - Chief Rabbi of Central Africa. When they first came to Lagos, they didn't think that one day they will be growing their family in this huge country. After a few visits for the Jewish Holidays, they decided to settle in Abuja in 2013 to develop and unite the Jewish Community.
They built a Jewish Community Center and Jewish communal life in Abuja. Chabad of Nigeria nourishes a community that is respectful and sensitive to diversity and hosts Jewish services and events, Sabbath and Holiday services, educational programs for the young and old alike, and also provides multi-lingual services and resources to Jews businesses and individuals working in Nigeria. Our programs are designed to strengthen Jewish identity and understanding of Jewish culture to the wider community.
The Chabad Jewish Community Center of Nigeria is located in Abuja which has the largest Jewish presence in Nigeria, but also provides for the spiritual welfare of the smaller Jewish communities of Lagos, Ibadan, Benin City, Kashimbila... Chabad of Nigeria is strategically located in close proximity to major Jewish companies enabling us to establish a strong presence at the Institutions and share our rich heritage with the entire community.
In 2018, they celebrated the 5 years in Abuja with an event in Lagos and Abuja - reinforcing the jewish pride. They are always under construction from one project to another.
Rabbi Israel and Haya Uzan have now six children that are helping in their mission
