Dear Melbourne Jewish Community Members,
Next Shabbat, "Shabbat Chazon" a coed group of American and Israeli teens are coming to spend Shabbat in our community as part of a teen travel program to New Zealand and Australia known as Kanfei. The kids are all modern orthodox Yeshiva High school kids. Included among them are a number of campers from Israel who lost family members fighting for Am Yisrael since October 7th.
The goal of spending Shabbat in Melbourne is to connect the participants with local families so they could learn about and experience the Jewish community in Australia.
They will be arriving Thursday evening July 31, after dinner at approximately 9:30 pm, and will be leaving Sunday morning (Tisha B'Av) , August 3rd at around 10:00 am. All the meals will be eaten at Mizrachi Synagogue except for Friday night dinner which they will eat with their billets (if possible) to allow them to connect with local families. The kids have programming Frida and Shabbos which will take place at Mizrachi synagogue.
Please let us know if you would be interested in hosting either male or female participants of the program. We are still looking for a number of homes. The kids are friendly and full of life and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
